Berkeley artist Fred Fierstein donated the Guardian Sculpture to the City of Berkeley. Mr. Fierstein placed the sculpture on the traffic island at the foot of University Avenue at the Berkeley Marina. The Berkeley Art Commission rejected the gift of the Guardian Sculpture and demanded that the sculpture be removed. The purpose of this chapter is to require the City of Berkeley to retain the Guardian Sculpture at its present location. (Ord. 5786-NS § 1, 1986)
