The provisions of Section 13.72.010 shall not apply in the following cases:

A. To sheriffs, constables, marshals, policemen or other duly appointed peace officers in the discharge of their official duties, nor to any person summoned by any such officer to assist in making arrests or preserving the peace while said person so summoned is actually engaged in assisting such officer;

B. To members of the Army, Navy or Marine Corps of the United States, or the National Guard when on duty, nor to any other organizations which, by the United States federal government, are authorized to use such firearms;

C. To members of any lawfully organized club when using said firearms for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets upon police-approved target ranges;

D. To persons using firearms in necessary self-defense and in a careful manner;

E. To persons using firearms for the purpose of destroying noxious animals upon land owned or occupied by them;

F. To the owner or occupant of any land who has been granted temporary permission by the Chief of Police to shoot birds, otherwise lawfully killed, when they become a nuisance on such land;

G. To persons shooting ducks or other game birds in San Francisco Bay, provided that said shooting shall not be done within one thousand feet of the shoreline or within one thousand feet of any pier, bulkhead or similar structure;

H. To persons firing blank cartridges in shows, athletic contests or other public performances. (Ord. 2878-NS § 2, 1947)
