This ordinance shall be known as the "Berkeley Equal Benefits Ordinance." The purpose of this chapter is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by requiring that public funds be expended in such a manner as to prohibit discrimination in the provision of employee benefits by City contractors between employees with spouses and employees with domestic partners, and/or between domestic partners and spouses of such employees.
